Been awhile since my last blog post. I have been chasing muskies on the fly. Been an ok fall so far. Six muskies have been landed including a 4 fish day back in October. I have updated my rates for the upcoming 2019 season. I will begin booking dates for 2019 in December of 2018. Remember that the best fishing here in central Illinois usually occurs in late June through September. I will accept bookings for April and May, but often those dates need to be rescheduled due to higher than advantageous river conditions. For those who have fished with me in the past, don’t forget to take advantage of my referral program. You refer a new client to me and they get $50 off their trip and you get $50 off your next trip. Look forward to seeing new and old faces in 2019

Well, my guiding season has officially ended. I want to thank all those folks who booked me for a trip or two. When the river was right, fishing was great!! I am anxiously awaiting 2019. I will begin booking trips for 2019 starting January 1. For me, it is onto my annual fall/winter muskie hunt. Got my first two muskies of the fall this past Saturday…………….off to a good start!! Hope to see some old and new faces in 2019

Hello first cold front! Temps. were in the forties both mornings this past weekend. I was hoping it would not have an effect on the fish, but it seemed to. Saturday I guided two fly fishermen and they were able to scratch out 15 smallies, but it was a grind and no larger fish to be found. Sunday I did a short float trip and it was the same story……………tough bite with only about 15 small bass to show for our efforts. Sounds like we have a warm up coming this week which should take the bite back to normal. This upcoming weekend is my last guiding for 2018. Right now I still have Saturday and Sunday open. If you are interested, give me a shout.

Fishing was, once again, Incredible this past weekend. I had the pleasure of fishing with Paul Read. Paul booked me both Saturday and Sunday. We floated about 4 miles on Saturday and Paul caught 50 bass………….including an 18 incher! My swim jig reigned supreme as the bass just went nuts on the swim jig burned mid-water column. On Sunday, we floated a shorter stretch and Paul caught 28, including 3 smallies between 15 and 17 inches. The hot baits on Sunday were the Whopper Plopper, the swim jig, and a crankbait. It was a truly memorable weekend. My guiding season is quickly coming to end. The only dates I have left are the 29th and 30th of this month. If you want to get a trip in, don’t hesitate to call or email me……………………….

Another great weekend on the river. The river is very low (somehow the river missed all the big rains) and very clear but the fish are eating. Once again topwater reigned supreme………….the Whopper Plopper continues to fool the smallies. My guiding season is coming to an end. The only opening slots I have left are the last weekend in September…………..give me a shout.

Fishing continues to be EXCELLENT!! The topwater bite on Saturday and Sunday was Great!! I have not seen a consistent bite like this in years!! Whopper Ploppers have reigned supreme and for the fly guys, poppers are doing great as well. I got an 18.5 on the fly on sunday morning. My client on Saturday caught over 40 smallies with numerous nice sized fish up to 17.5 inches. I have only a few weekend dates left for this year……………..give me a shout at 309-922-4423

WHAT A WEEKEND!! Fished Saturday and Sunday and the topwater bite continues to amaze me. Standard gear or fly rods……….both worked great! Water is low and clear and the fish are setting up anywhere there is current………….even in very shallow water. Long casts before you get to the spot is key. I have this upcoming Saturday and Sunday available…………give me a shout.

As promised, here are the available dates I have left for this season:
August 25, September 1-2, 8, 15-16, 22, 29-30………….give me a shout
Sorry I have been “off the website radar screen” for so long. I spent some time in the hospital back in mid July and was out of fishing commission for about 3 weeks. I have been fishing again since early August and the fishing on the Vermilion has been nothing short of fantastic…………….the river is low, clear and the fish have been eating big time!! I am back to teaching school so I am only guiding on the weekends through September. I still have some dates open (including this Saturday), especially in September. If you want to get in on the action, now is the time to contact me. I will post my open dates tomorrow.

As you can probably guess, the river is still very high. In fact, there is nary a stream in the top half of Illinois that is fishable right now. Really makes it tough on a guy like me that loves rivers, is not working, and has no river to fish. Hoping rivers will be fishable in another 10 days or so. By the way, my home phone number (land line) has been disconnected. You can reach me through email….firstname.lastname@example.org or 309-922-4423
